Appointments

There are a number of ways to book an appointment with a member of our team.

  1. By telephone (020 3883 5700) – via the reception queue or automated booking
  2. Online direct booking via the NHS App
  3. Submit an online consultation form via the ‘Contact us online’ option below

Our phone lines are open Monday to Friday, 8am-6:30pm

If using this option, we need you to give the receptionist some information about the nature of your complaint or query, so we can ensure that you consult with the most appropriate team member. All team members are bound by strict confidentiality rules.

If arranging a follow-up (e.g. for test results), please advise us who you prefer to see and, wherever possible, we will try to accommodate this to improve continuity of care.

We encourage face-to-face appointments at our practice, but it is possible to request a telephone consultation for appropriate issues. In a number of clinical cases, we will need to examine you so will insist on a face-to-face slot.

There are far better options (e.g. online and automated booking) than queueing at our front door at 8am and we strongly encourage patients to consider these in the first instance.

Automated and online booking

Telephone lines are usually busiest first thing in the morning so, if you need an on-the-day GP face-to-face appointment, please consider using our automated system. These slots are configured to release at 8am daily and can save time if you do not need to see a specific clinician.

To access the automated telephone facility (which can also be used to cancel existing appointments at any time – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – or to book an on-the-day appointment between 8am and 2pm), call 020 3883 5700 and select option 2 when prompted.

You will be prompted for your date of birth, which the system will use (along with the telephone number you are calling from) to identify you. Select option 1 on the following menu and appointments available to book via this system will be offered to you. In the event that no slots are available, your call will revert to reception; option 2 on this menu will allow you to cancel pre-booked appointments. Please be considerate and let us know if you are unable to attend so that we can offer the appointment to another patient. There is no excuse for not using the cancellation option.

Online-bookable GP slots are released up to two weeks in advance. Some are also released on the day. There are also online-bookable slots for blood tests (if requested by a clinician), the First Contact Physiotherapist service (please see below for more information on this service) and for cervical screening (if you have received an invite). Please consider using this option to minimise call waiting. Again, it is a requirement to give us some details of your complaint or query at the time of booking.

For non-urgent medical and administrative issues, please click here to use our online consultation form.

If ringing NHS 111 out of core hours, you may be offered an appointment at a local hub. For direction or more information, please see below.

First Contact Physiotherapist (FCP)

See a First Contact Physiotherapist (FCP) practitioner for musculoskeletal problems (i.e. back, neck and knee pain), as well as sports injuries. We work with Surrey Physio and offer slots which can be booked without seeing a nurse or GP in advance. Appointments for this service are online-bookable up to two weeks in advance. FCPs are highly experienced physiotherapists who can refer for x-rays and scans and refer on to secondary care if required. They are also able to issue fit notes.

Your appointment

Surgeries are held throughout the day from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Friday. Saturday surgeries for all Grafton Medical Partners sites in Tooting are held at Trevelyan House Surgery, 9am to 5pm.

Core GP hours are 8am-6:30pm. Our phone lines are open during this time. Any appointments outside of these hours (i.e. 6:30pm-8pm on weekdays and all day Saturday) are by appointment only. Any urgent queries outside of core hours need to be addressed to NHS 111.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

If an appointment is made and for some reason is no longer required, we do ask that you cancel the appointment as soon as possible. This will enable the appointment to be used for another patient.

To cancel your appointment:

  • use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
  • use the GP online system: Patient Access
  • call us on 020 3883 5700, key option 2 when prompted to access the automated menu and option 2 again for the cancellation module (you will be prompted for your date of birth and must be calling from a number we have recorded for you).

Text reminders

Please ensure that you let us know when you change your contact details. We are able to send you a text message to remind you of your appointment if we have an up to date mobile phone number. At times, we will also use a system called AccuRx to send you medical information (for example, results of tests).

Not all problems need to be seen by a GP. We are proud to have a large, multi-disciplinary team at Trevelyan House and also work closely with our colleagues in community pharmacy. Many minor conditions can be quickly and efficiently dealt with by community pharmacy and we now have a scheme called Pharmacy First. Appointments for this service are usually on the day and prescriptions issued via the service are free if ordinarily you do not pay prescription charges. The following conditions can be seen via this service.

Pharmacy First

Pharmacists can give you advice on a range of conditions and suggest medicines that can help.

Conditions community pharmacists can treat as part of Pharmacy First are:

· earache (aged 1 to 17 years)
· impetigo (aged 1 year and over) – a contagious skin infection
· infected insect bites (aged 1 year and over)
· shingles (aged 18 years and over) – infection that causes a painful rash
· sinusitis (aged 12 years and over) – infection of the sinuses (behind the forehead, cheeks and nose)
· sore throat (aged 5 years and over)
· urinary tract infections or UTIs (women aged 16 to 64 years)

Our reception team may direct you to the local pharmacy if you report one of these conditions and will fill in a referral form on your behalf after taking some details.

You may also walk in to one of the participating pharmacies without requiring a GP referral.

The nearest participating pharmacies to Trevelyan House are:

– Barrons Chemist / Pearl / Lords / AP Chemist / Boots

If you need help when we are closed

Wandsworth’s out of hours service does not offer walk-in appointments. Access to the service is, instead, via the national NHS 111 call line.

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

Our nearest hospital is St George’s Hospital (Blackshaw Road, London SW17 0QT; 020 8672 1255). Their casualty department is open 24 hours a day but is for serious injuries (e.g. broken bones and serious medical concerns such as chest pain or breathlessness).

The St George’s Maternity Helpline is available for pregnancies more than 14 weeks (020 8725 2777). Please call this number if you are more than 14 weeks pregnant and have concerns about yourself or your baby (during pregnancy, labour or in the 6 weeks after birth). It is staffed by midwives who can offer advice, reassurance, and clinical support 7 days a week.

The Early Pregnancy Service at St George’s Hospital is for pregnancies less than 14 weeks and can be contacted on 020 8725 0093. If you are less than 14 weeks pregnant and have any concerns (e.g. abdominal pain or vaginal bleeding) please contact the Early Pregnancy Service for information and advice on the number above. Leave your name, phone number and pregnancy concern and the nurses will respond to your answerphone message in the afternoon every day except Sundays. Please visit their webpage here for more information. If you have urgent concerns please go to A&E.

The Coral Mental Health Crisis Hub is an alternative place of safety to the Emergency Department for mental health emergencies. The service is based at Springfield University Hospital and you can be referred to the hub via the mental health support line. Call the mental health support line on 0800 028 8000 for a referral to the hub or email CoralCrisisAssessmentHubTeam@swlstg.nhs.uk.

For more mental health support resources, please visit our dedicated page for mental health support and resources.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone or face-to-face
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

Please do not ask for a home visit unless the patient is genuinely too ill to come to the surgery. We can see four to five patients in surgery during the time it takes to do one home visit, and it is at the doctor’s discretion as to whether a home visit is necessary. Most of our home visits are carried out by our in-house paramedics with GP backup.
